Ross University School of Medicine (Ross Med) takes a holistic approach to our admission process.
How We Evaluate
Our admission selection committee will consider your undergraduate performance, knowledge of the medical profession, interpersonal skills, motivation, personal character, and clinical experience in addition to GPA and MCAT® scores.
Before You Apply
Below you will find a list of items that Ross University considers requirements to have a valid application to our med school.
All letters of recommendation and transcripts must be sent electronically to admissions@rossu.edu or mailed to:
Ross University School of Medicine
Office of Admissions
10315 USA Today Way,
Miramar, Florida, 33025
You'll submit your completed Ross Med application online in our application portal.
Eligibility and Requirements
Admission to Ross Med includes submitting all college level or higher coursework and we will determine your cumulative GPA and GPA in the required pre-medical coursework. We evaluate your application using several factors, not just your GPA. You can contact our Admissions team to find out if you qualify for the Ross Med MD program.
MCAT RequirementsTo meet medical school admission requirements, Ross Med requires that all U.S. applicants* take the Medical College Admissions Test ® (MCAT ® ). Canadian and international applicants are not required to submit MCAT scores, but are strongly encouraged to do so.
At the same time, Ross Med does not have a minimum required MCAT score for our applicants. Instead, your application will be considered holistically—meaning your MCAT score will be weighed alongside other factors.
You may apply to Ross Med before sitting for the MCAT but will need to submit your MCAT scores prior to your admission interview.
Use our Online MCAT Guide to learn more about the MCAT and find upcoming test dates.
You’re always welcome to reach out to our Admissions Office to discuss your personal situation and get a better idea of your potential candidacy as a Ross Med student. You can also take our Admissions Assessment to learn more about the strength of your candidacy at Ross Med.
*Ross Med requires MCAT scores submitted by all U.S. Citizens, nationals, or eligible permanent resident applicants prior to the interview.
Prerequisite Coursework and Previous EducationUpon admission to Ross Med, you must have a bachelor’s degree or higher and have completed the below courses within the last ten years.
*Substitutions and/or exceptions for med school prerequisites are made on a case by case basis at the discretion of the Admissions Dean and Faculty Admissions Committee.
Please take our Admissions Assessment test to determine whether you might be a good fit for RUSM.
How important is a letter of recommendation for medical school?Because Ross Med’s admissions committee weighs multiple factors in determining your candidacy for medical school, the letters of recommendation you submit can offer important insight into your work ethic, interpersonal skills, community involvement, and other attributes that go beyond academics.
Do I need to have all my prerequisite coursework completed before applying to medical school? No. All prerequisite coursework must be completed prior to the start of your first semester of medical school, but you may apply to Ross Med’s program if some of the course requirements are still in progress. If conditionally admitted, completion of the in-progress course is still required unless specifically waived by the Admissions Committee.
Are extracurriculars required to be accepted into medical school?Extracurricular activities are not a medical school admissions requirement. Nonetheless, to be a strong applicant for medical school, your application should demonstrate that you are a well-rounded individual beyond academics. Extracurricular activities are highly recommended.
Do medical school transfer students have different requirements?Ross Med offers several pathways for applicants to transfer into our MD degree program. The medical school requirements for transfer students are different than students who are enrolling in medical school for the first time. Additional admissions requirements are available on our Transfer Applicant page.

We want you to stay on track to meet your personal and professional goals, so we aim to provide fast turnaround on submitted applications.
After you submit your online application:
Connect with a Ross Med alum or current student. Get your questions answered, expand your professional network, and build your relationships with Rossies who have been through the program and can give you the inside scoop and tips for transitioning through school.
We strongly believe in the value of learning more about our applicants through a personal interview.
If your credentials are judged to be indicative of the potential for successful completion of the Ross Med curriculum, an admissions advisor will invite you for an interview.
The interview is conducted within two to four weeks after we receive your initial application materials.
Your personal interview helps the admissions committee assess your overall personal and academic background, maturity, adaptability, character, aptitude, and most importantly, your motivation to become a doctor.
Being granted an interview is not a guarantee of acceptance, though it does play a significant part in the decision by the admissions committee.
For International ApplicantsIf you completed your undergraduate studies in countries that have an educational system different from that of the United States or Canada, please note that a completed pre-medical curriculum comparable to that completed by U.S. and Canadian students is a prerequisite for admission to our program.
Your application will be evaluated on your merits, and our admissions advisors can help you get started. Please contact us with any questions you may have about the program or requirements for admission.
Ross Med is proud to partner with Advanced Medical Preparation (AMP) program to provide a pathway for qualified Indian students to study in a U.S.-style medical program. More information is coming soon! www.ampmedicine.org
Typically, you will be able to apply for one of three upcoming semesters via the online application. We continue to accept application for each semester until all seats are filled.
We encourage you to submit your application as early as possible before your desired start. This provides you with ample time to work with our admissions team through the application process.
In the event that all seats are filled before you receive a decision, your application will automatically be considered for the next available semester.

Ross University School of Medicine is accredited by the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP, www.caam-hp.org).
CAAM-HP is the legally constituted body established in 2003 under the aegis of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), empowered to determine and prescribe standards and to accredit programs of medical, dental, veterinary and other health professions education on behalf of the contracting parties in CARICOM.
Accreditation by CAAM-HP is a rigorous, peer review process which examines all aspects of a medical program. The CAAM-HP board, an independent and autonomous body of professionals, only certifies medical schools which are operating at the highest levels of industry standards.
Through this accreditation, the CAAM-HP provides assurance to medical students, graduates, the medical profession, healthcare institutions, and the public that programs leading to qualifications in medicine meet appropriate national and international standards for educational quality, and that the graduates have a sufficiently complete and valid educational experience.
